At Fruitful AI, we know our people are at the heart of every innovation — and we’re thrilled to introduce the newest member of our team, Giorgia! With a background in computer vision and a passion for solving complex challenges, she brings curiosity, creativity, and a love for tiramisù (yes, you read that right) to our growing company. We sat down with Giorgia to learn more about her journey, her thoughts on the future of computer vision, and what excites her most about joining our team.

Can you share a bit about your journey into computer vision and what sparked your interest in this field?

Giorgia: My journey into computer vision started somewhat unexpectedly. During my Erasmus in Brussels in late 2023, I took a course that dealt with image acquisition and processing, which I found fascinating right away. Coincidentally, I was also looking for an internship to combine with my thesis, and after a few weeks of searching, I decided to take a chance on an project with a company in Verona that focuses on AI and computer vision. With only a little experience and a lot of curiosity, I dove in.

What has been one of you most exciting or challenging projects in computer vision so far, and why did it stand out to you?

Giorgia: My thesis project focused on the impact of image compression on deep learning algorithms, particularly for anomaly detection. Throughout the internship, I explored state of the art and novel image compression techniques, as well as their implementation and feasibility for industrial applications. I was already familiar with classification techniques, but I got the chance to explore new and more complex ones such as few shot learning. I also got familiar with computer vision techniques, such as object and anomaly detection. I found all the explored techniques captivating due to their importance in practical applications and their complex yet rewarding nature.

What attracted you to join our team, and what are you most looking forward to contributing in your new role?

Giorgia: Joining this team felt like the perfect next step. I'm someone who thrives on innovation, and working in a company with such ambitious goals excites me. Being part of a growing organization means there’s so much to learn and room to push myself beyond my limits. I also love the idea of contributing early on and helping shape its future.

Can you describe your approach to solving complex challenges in computer vision project?

Giorgia: When it comes to problem-solving, I'm quite methodical. I like to break challenges into smaller steps to avoid feeling overwhelmed. By following a structured plan, I often realize that what seemed like a daunting issue was simply a puzzle waiting to be solved. This analytical approach keeps me grounded and helps me stay calm under pressure.

How do you see computer vision evolving in the next few years, and what role do you think our team can play in that evolution?

Giorgia: As for the future of computer vision, I see it advancing rapidly, potentially reaching or even surpassing human capabilities. Researchers are constantly refining models that already perform remarkably well, and I believe this field will continue to surprise us with its potential in industries far beyond what we can currently imagine.

Outside of work, what's one fun fact about you or a hobby that invluences your creative or technical thinking?

Giorgia: On a more personal note, I don’t have a favorite food, but I love Italian cuisine as well as Mexican and Chinese dishes. I enjoy baking too, especially a good tiramisù (which should not be a surprise, considering I’m from Treviso, the birthplace of tiramisù). Outside of tech, I'm passionate about music: I play the piano and sing in a choir. I’ve always loved creating harmonies both vocally and with the piano, and I think it even influences my technical thinking. I also enjoy crochet and knitting, which I find calming and a great way to express creativity. I think it’s important to have hobbies that are different from my work because it helps me explore other aspects of myself and keeps my mind sharp in diverse ways, and it also enriches my personal growth and broadens my perspective.

A huge thank you to Giorgia for sharing her story and passion with us. We’re so excited to have her on board and can’t wait to see the incredible contributions she’ll make to Fruitful AI. Welcome to the team, Giorgia — here’s to shaping the future of computer vision together! 🚀
